Super Thanks
Super Thanks lets YouTube viewers tip a creator on an ordinary video or Short; the buyer sees a one-time animation and posts a highlighted comment. Creators need the fan funding tier of the YouTube Partner Program and keep 70% of net revenue.
Super Thanks is a paid tip on an ordinary YouTube video or Short: the viewer picks an amount with a slider under the video, sees a one-time animation that only they can see, and gets a colorful, highlighted comment showing the amount (Buy Super Thanks). Creators turn it on in YouTube Studio > Earn > Supers once the channel reaches the fan funding tier of the YouTube Partner Program and signs the Commerce Product Module, and they keep 70% of net revenue. YouTube launched it on Jul 20, 2021 as the uploads counterpart of Super Chat, which works only in live chat.

How do I send a Super Thanks?
- Open an eligible long-form video on a computer, or the YouTube app.
- Select Super Thanks under the video. On a Short, open the comments first.
- Move the slider to an amount; higher amounts play a more elaborate animation.
- Click Buy and send and finish the payment.
- Write the comment if you want; it is posted with the amount.
The comment, channel name, profile image and amount are public (YouTube Help). Super Thanks launched at four price points from $2 to $50; Help today says only that several prices are offered, so the slider shows the current ones. Payments are not refunded, even if the comment is later deleted or removed.
Who can turn on Super Thanks?
A channel needs (YouTube Help):
- The minimum for fan funding features, today 500 subscribers plus 3,000 watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days.
- To be in one of the countries and regions where it is offered (99 by Help's list).
- To accept the Commerce Product Module.
- Not to be set as made for kids, or carry a significant number of made for kids or other ineligible videos. Some music channels, such as those under an SRAV contract, are not eligible (Made for Kids).
To turn it on, in YouTube Studio on a computer:
- Click Earn, then the Supers tab (it shows only when the channel is eligible).
- Click Get started and follow the steps; sign the Commerce Product Module if asked.
- Turn on the switch next to Super Thanks.
It then appears on every eligible past and future video and Short. The same switch turns it off for the whole channel; Help describes no setting for single videos (YouTube Help). Channels in a network wait until the network has accepted the module.
Which videos cannot get Super Thanks?
Age-restricted, unlisted, private and made for kids videos, videos with a copyright claim, videos running a YouTube Giving fundraiser, and videos with comments off. Live streams and Premieres cannot receive it while live; their archives can afterward (YouTube Help).
Replying to Super Thanks
In YouTube Studio's comments, the filter From Super Thanks shows them all, where a creator can reply, heart or remove them. In the YouTube mobile app, a creator can also answer one with a Short: open the comment, tap Reply, then Create a Short, and place the comment as a sticker in it (YouTube Help).
Earnings show in Analytics under Revenue > How you make money > Supers, and are paid with ad revenue through AdSense for YouTube. YouTube Creators' launch-era video, which still called the Studio menu Monetization, showed the same totals under Transaction revenue, for the channel and for each video from its own Analytics, and said YouTube covers transaction costs such as credit card fees.
