YouTube Player for Education
YouTube Player for Education is an ad-free YouTube player built into classroom and learning apps, which schools' education partners pay YouTube to license. Since June 2025 creators earn a share of those fees by watch time, opting in at YouTube Studio > Earn > Player for Education.
YouTube Player for Education is a version of the YouTube player that education companies embed in their learning tools, so students watch YouTube videos with no ads and with extra privacy safeguards (YouTube Help). The partners pay YouTube a license fee for it, and since June 2025 creators whose videos play there earn a share of that money, paid by their proportional share of the monthly watch time in the player. Creators opt in at YouTube Studio > Earn > More ways to earn > Player for Education > Get started.

What is YouTube Player for Education?
It is the player teachers and students meet inside the education tools their school already uses, rather than on youtube.com. Instead of a watch page with ads, comments and recommendations around the video, the partner's app shows the video in YouTube's ad-free player with student privacy protections (YouTube Help). It launched in the United States and South Korea in September 2022, without ads, external links or recommendations (9to5Google). Help does not publish a list of the partner apps.
How do creators earn from Player for Education?
In June 2025 YouTube began sharing the license fees with creators (Tubefilter). Each month, the money is divided by watch time: a channel's share of all watch time in the player sets its share of the pool. YouTube gives no percentage and no rate per hour, so there is no reliable way to estimate earnings before seeing them (YouTube Help).
Two conditions decide who can earn. The videos must allow embedding, and YouTube offers the payment terms each month to newly eligible creators, and only where partners show demand for their content. A video can be used in the player without the creator having accepted terms; it simply earns nothing for that creator until they do.
How do I opt in?
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer.
- Go to Earn, then More ways to earn.
- Choose Player for Education and click Get started.
- Accept the terms. Help notes that they then apply to every channel linked to the same account.
Earnings show in AdSense and are paid once a month. In YouTube Studio Analytics, filter a report by Player type: Player for Education (through Advanced Mode or See more) to see its views and watch time; see YouTube Studio Analytics (YouTube Help).
How do I keep my videos out of it?
Restrict embedding on the videos. The player is an embed, so a video that cannot be embedded cannot appear in it; this also removes it from every other site that embeds YouTube videos (YouTube Help; see YouTube Embeds).
For schools
Viewers see no ads in the player. A school network that blocks unknown sites may need to allowlist youtubeeducation.com for the player to load (YouTube Help).
What creators say
In a Jun 8, 2025 video, George Vanous, who runs the Freedom! network, showed the program at the far right end of the Earn page's tabs, "well hidden" in his words, where a Turn on button and a license agreement switched it on. He stressed that nothing else is needed: no tagging of videos as educational, since YouTube decides where they fit. He came across it by chance, and said YouTube is "pretty bad" at announcing new features.
In the same video George said that a channel that does not see Player for Education on its Earn page is one whose content YouTube judges not to qualify, and that channels about subjects such as gaming probably will not see it. That is his reading; Help puts it as terms offered where education partners show demand for a channel's content.
Grafted Technology walked through the same steps in a 2025 video: open Earn in YouTube Studio, look for the Player for Education tab, read the agreement and accept it.
